Meet John Clare - Founder and Owner of Clare's Cycle John Clare’s love affair with motorcycles started in 1949, at age 15, when he received a 1930 Harley-Davidson® motorcycle as payment for a plumbing repair. Over the years, he has participated in nearly every branch of motorcycle sport, including road racing, trials, scrambles,hill climbs and dirt track. His enthusiasm was rewarded in 1974, when he was recognized by Premier Bill Davis as ‘Ontario Sportsman of the Year’ for his distinguished performance in amateur sports. When it comes to the people who have been instrumental in the development of the sport of motorcycling in Canada, few have had the same level of influence as John Clare. A force in the industry for over 65 years now,  John opened his first motorcycle shop in 1955 in the small town of Fenwick, Ontario. 7 Tips for Safe Motorcycle Riding in Autumn Let's face it, autumn is a beautiful time to go for a ride on your motorcycle. You suit up in all your riding gear and head out on the open road or onto the trails. But there are some added risks that arrive during the autumn riding season so being prepared is key. 1. Falling Leaves and Leaves on the Ground - Leaves on the Trails , falling leaves create visual hazards, especially if they are wet. They can stick to your visor or block visibility on your path of travel. They cover up holes on the trails, rocks, or any other object protruding from the ground. Don’t get distracted by leaves, regardless of how pretty and mesmerizing they are while falling. Leaves on the Road present as much hazard as falling ones. They can cover up drain ditches, culverts, potholes and make it slick. Although leaves look dry, the ones on the ground are likely wet, which will quickly cause traction issues. 2. The autumn coloured trees and landscape are magnificent. The change of season is really putting on a show. Make it a point to get on your bike and ride out to Clare's Cycle and Sports in Fenwick. Don't just cruise the highway, take the country roads. I live in St. Catharines, about 25 km from work. I cruised up 5th St. Louth and made my way up Effingham Rd.
